Hi there, my name is Malina! I'm a Chinese-American artist from Honolulu, Hawai’i. I'm now based in Portland, Oregon, at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. I create vibrant, colorful sculptures using both soft and solid materials, primarily ceramics, textiles, and fibers. My goal when creating art is to make objects that evoke emotion and spark conversation, encouraging community building that uplifts joy through shared experiences. Some of the subjects I enjoy addressing are domesticity, artifacts of comfort, and labor; all of which are often major pillars of culture and community, be that within chosen or prescribed spaces. I'm using art to explore what comfort, culture, and labor mean to me and the spaces around me. I am deeply inspired by my upbringing, the cultures I exist within, and the people in my community. I hope that my art connects with or inspires something within you, be that through similarity or difference.
